Dr. Janina Jeff

Staff Bioinformatics Scientist, Podcast Executive Producer and Host

Stem Field: Archaeology

Dr. Janina Jeff was born in New Orleans, Louisiana. She currently works as a Staff Bioinformatics Scientist at Illumina for their genotyping array portfolio. Janina has formal training in analyzing large ‘omic’ datasets, applying computational genomics methods, bioinformatics, and statistical programming to understand population substructure and disease associations. However, she is inherently an educator and STEAM- activist that is deeply rooted in the community. Dr. Jeff is also a motivational speaker and recently a podcaster after winning the inaugural Spotify’s Sound-Up Bootcamp (out of 18,000 applicants) from for her (developing) podcast, “In Those Genes”, which is a science and culture podcast that uses genetics to decode the lost histories of African descended Americans.
